Smoke, Silence, and Southeast Asia's Haze Problem The haze has returned to Malaysian Borneo, blanketing the region in a thick layer of toxic smoke that poses a significant threat to the health and livelihoods of its residents.
The latest chapter in this persistent problem is particularly severe, with nearly 600 schools forced to shut their doors due to air pollution levels reaching "very unhealthy" status in some areas.
This disruption affects over 200,000 students, who are displaced from their studies as a result.
